Gabber Gabber Hey

My latest feature for the LA Weekly is now online.  I think the hard copies are out tomorrow.

I think what I liked best about working on this assignment was that it wasn't nostalgic, at least from my perspective.  I was not a fan of gabber or happy hardcore during the 1990s (in fact, I found it annoying), so I definitely wasn't looking back to some supposed glory day.  Instead, what I found interesting was that people are taking the influence of gabber and, to a lesser extent, happy hardcore and they aren't being ironic about it in the least.  They are taking a strain of an influence and making something that is a pretty radical departure from the source material.
